Regional and seasonal variability in human thermal stress in Poland

Abstract The study objective was to determine the spatial and temporal variability of Poland’s bioclimatic conditions designate heat-stress regions with Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) application. based on daily data from multiannual period 1966–2021 obtained for 37 stations in Poland, provided resources Institute Meteorology Water Management–National Research (IMGW-PIB). aforementioned basis calculation (UTCI). revealed high both terms. Bioclimatic characterised by different occurrence heat stress were distinguished characterised. Regions south-west west Poland proved most favourable terms, highest number days no thermal stress. In these regions, UTCI values observed, while lowest recorded northeast at east coast Baltic Sea. Among unfavourable biometeorological conditions, ones causing hypothermia have so far occurred more frequently than overheating human organism. However, has increased during period; therefore, under proceeding global warming, an increase frequency can be expected. So far, intensive spring weakest winter.
